YEO HAENG _ Journey_Part I
“As I look at the moments they are living now, memories of my own twenties quietly return.”
Prologue_Letter
To Hunter, Gaspard, Asia, Angela and Ella,
I invited the five of you on this journey, 여행_旅行 (Yeo Haeng).
You are in your twenties, newly stepping into adulthood.
You have already left the familiar world of childhood behind, but perhaps you have not yet arrived anywhere.
You are still discovering what you love, what you dream of, what you want to give your passion to—and who you are becoming.
There are two characters in the word for journey, 旅行.
旅 — YEO
To leave the familiar behind and stay somewhere unknown.
I see each of us as a 旅人 — a traveler, a person on the way.
Not because we know where we are going, but because we are willing to leave, to discover, and to experience what is waiting for us.
行 — HAENG
To go.
To move.
To move forward.
Perhaps what matters at this moment in our lives is not where we will arrive.
It is that we are moving now.
We question.
We love.
We dream.
We give ourselves fully to the things we care about.
Sometimes we may fail.
Sometimes we may lose our balance.
And sometimes we may find something we never knew we were looking for.
All of this is part of 行.

Meet Hunter Mathews, Photographer
This project began with Hunter, whom I met through the project What Is in Your Hand?
From the moment I met Hunter, when she came into my studio with her curiosity and a smile like a shy little tomboy, my own curiosity about her began to grow as well.
The photographs she has been taking since she was 14 years old revealed her own universe—her sense of freedom and sensitivity, captured through her film camera.
I find something especially beautiful when a work is created through a person’s own life story—something that could never be exactly the same as anyone else’s.

HUNTER MATHEWS is an analog photographer from Los Angeles, based in New York City. She received a BFA from New York University and is an alum of the Eddie Adams Workshop. Working across documentary, portraiture, and editorial, she builds long-term projects with friends, family, and community, collaborating closely with subjects to create personal, empathetic narratives.
Her work highlights visibility, the emotional weight of ordinary life, and analog photography's relevance, exploring adolescence, intimacy, and liberation.
Meet Gaspard Choquet, Cinematographer
I wish I could have filmed the moment I first met him as he opened the door. His mischievous smile, dishevelled hair, and glittering eyes immediately made me smile and want to welcome him on our trip.
Beyond his mischievous smile, there is a depth in the way he regards people, life, fear, warmth, and love. It appears through his lens, in both his films and photography.
I’m already a quiet fan of his creative work, and I can’t wait to see where his journey takes him next.

GASPARD CHOQUET is a filmmaker and photographer from the Bay Area, currently based in NYC. He is pursuing his B.F.A. in Film & TV Production at New York University.
Whether its as a director, cinematographer, or photographer, his work revolves around the complexities of emotional intimacy, the fear yet necessity of vulnerability, and love.
